The Pearl Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony today for the new Pearl Police Department. The original Pearl Police Department was in a small mobile home on Old Brandon Road across from Patton Plaza Shopping Center. They moved to the corner of Old Brandon Road and Pruitt Lane and quickly outgrew that facility as the city continued to grow. The Old Pearl High School became vacant in 1990 when the new high school was built, and the Pearl Police Department moved to that location. The plan at the time was for them to stay there temporarily for 8 – 10 years and then build a new police department. After 24 years the Pearl Police Department has now moved into the beautiful new facility at 2561 Old Brandon Road. The new PD has 39,800 square feet and features large spacious offices, 2 courtrooms, a large storage vault for evidence and equipment as well as state of the art technology. The whole building has Wi-Fi and is secure with cameras throughout the building. Pictured cutting the ribbon is Pearl Police Chief Ben Schuler.
